On July 12th, scores of climate justice activists turned out on Hawthorne Street to pressure Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo to stop funding tar sands pipeline projects, especially Line 3. Indigenous activists spoke at a rally prior to the march which also featured music by XR activist, Wendy Emerson.
Last year, on June 30, 2020, after hearing extensive testimony from Portlanders including Tri Sanger of XRPDX, the City Council voted unanimously to pass a Climate Emergency Declaration (CED).

More than 30 legislators from Minnesota’s House of Representatives and Senate released a letter demanding the state halt the Line 3 project and order Enbridge to cease drilling until more data is available about what, exactly, is being released everywhere Enbridge goes and what happens to it once it’s loose.

The Run for the Children event was held on Saturday, July 10th to honor children and survivors of indigenous residential schools and specifically to raise awareness for the indigenous youth buried in unmarked graves at the Chemawa School in Salem.
