Join us in educating Chase Bank managers and executives about the incredible awfulness of further funding of tar sands oil!
We need to let the executives at Chase Bank know why they should refuse to fund any more tar sands oil infrastructure, specifically the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline in Minnesota and the Keystone XL line. Both are needing further funding to go forward. Chase Bank execs can refuse to lend them the money and thereby count themselves as heroes, or at least not villains.
As a tax professional I am accustomed to looking at the money flow. Funding these tar sands projects is wrong at every level, bad for: indigenous peoples especially indigenous women, rural communities, wildlife in these areas, all humans and most life on the planet due to climate chaos, and Chase’s bottom line in the near and long term.
It’s also not in the executives’ best interests as they presumably live on this same planet, but it appears that they need a little help understanding that, so we’re helping them out.
These pipeline projects would make possible the expansion of tar sands oil production, an environmental and humanitarian disaster from start to finish. Local ecosystems, most often on Indigenous lands, are trashed including polluting water, destroying habitat, and more. Fossil fuel infrastructure projects like these are directly linked to the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women. The thousands of pipeline workers will cause COVID-19 surges in rural areas. And of course, Tar Sands oil the fuels climate crisis. Do Chase Bank execs really want to be linked to all this death and destruction? This is bad PR, a bad long term financial investment, and just plain wrong.
This action on Friday, December 11th will be a small car caravan and a bike caravan to various Chase branches where someone will deliver a letter to the branch manager, we will then follow up with posts about how we can all contact Chase in a variety of ways to do some further educating. Look for our Twitter and Facebook posts on December 11th with more info!
If you want to join the car caravan, email jenifer@350pdx.org. And if you want to join the bike actions, just show up at Central Lutheran Church, 1820 NE 21st at 12 noon! We’ll organize and then go from there.
If you want to deliver your own letter to a Chase Bank (or other financial institutions!), use this link to sign up with Stop The Money Pipeline:
