Deny Permits to Zenith Energy

The Land Use Compatibility Statement decision will be made in the next few weeks. This is a critical time to pressure the City of Portland to act now to avert future catastrophes—spills, fires and explosions, leaks and inferno in case of a major earthquake. Zenith Oil Facility is located in a liquefaction zone next to the Willamette River. That’s a nightmare waiting to happen. The City of Portland has also committed to reducing carbon emissions, in the face of climate chaos.

You may complete the form on this page to send a letter to Commissioner Dan Ryan and the rest of the Portland City Council to let them know that they must do everything in their power to shut down this dangerous operation.

Please refer to one or more of these reasons in your message asking Dan to deny the Land Use permit to Zenith. Your own words are best, of course.

  1. Our community does not want this plant to continue due to dangerous, hazardous transport both through Portland neighborhoods and the Columbia Gorge.
  2. The air quality and blast zone issues disproportionately affect low-income and BIPOC communities in North and NE Portland.
  3. The plant goes against existing City commitments and policy in the 2015 declaration against oil-by-rail, 2035 Comprehensive plan, and 2016 ban on new fossil fuel infrastructure.
  4. Zenith snuck into Portland on a technicality, has lied about its operations, and continues to expand illegally. It should be denied all further permits.
