With over 700 water protectors arrested this year and the pipeline moving into the final stages of completion, it is critical to do all we can to try to prevent this travesty from occurring. Water protectors are asking for some very specific actions as they courageously put their bodies on the line trying to defend Anishinaabe people’s hunting, fishing, traditional medicine, and wild rice lands (supposed to be under treaty protection being ignored).
The pipeline threatens the 227 lakes and rivers, not to mention the climate chaos that these tar sands exports, the equivalent of 50 coal powered plants, will cause.
Please take time this week to do an action each day in support of this critical campaign.
Begin by contacting the following folks to demand an end to excessive force and pain compliance tactics on water protectors:
- Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison @keithellison 651-296-3353
- Minnesota Dept. of Human Rights @mnhumanrights 833-454-0148
- Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan @LtGovFlanagan 651-201-3400
Then go to the Stop Line 3 website (stopline3.org) and send a letter to the Army Corps of Engineers demanding an immediate halt to pipeline construction until the full environmental impact statement has been completed, a step skipped by the Trump administration. While you’re there, you can also write a letter putting pressure on the Biden administration to take action on stopping Line 3.
Finally, call Chase CEO Jamie Dimon’s office at 212-270-1111 and tell them to stop funding fossil fuels and giving greenwashing loans to Enbridge, the Canadian company behind Line 3.
