While some XRPDX and 350PDX members are in Minnesota for the Treaty People Gathering, here in Portland we will hold a solidarity action, Monday, June 7th, at 4 pm outside the downtown Chase bank (811 SW 6th Ave.) across from Pioneer Square.
Throughout their business day, individuals will hold a silent vigil in front of the bank and encourage customers and passersby alike to put pressure on both Chase and the Biden administration.
JP Morgan Chase is the #1 banker of tar sands oil and other climate-killing fossil fuel projects. Chase funds Enbridge with $1.8 billion for pipelines. Line 3, if completed, will destroy Indigenous lands and waterways — pumping the carbon equivalent of 5 new coal-fired plants daily, threatening Indigenous wild rice fields and the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Thus far, over 240 water protectors have been arrested protesting this project.
(We are also looking for people to help us table through the event! Please see the signup sheet if you’d like to help spread the word!)
In addition to joining us Monday, contact the Biden administration to say: Stop Line 3!
Call 888-724-8946 and you will be automatically connected to the White House Switchboard or the Public Liaison Office.
Suggested message:
“Since the public comment line is closed, I’m calling to urge President Biden to revoke permits for oil and gas pipelines including Dakota Access and Line 3, and stop approving all new fossil fuel projects. If the President is serious about addressing the climate crisis, he must keep fossil fuels in the ground and invest in the communities that have borne the brunt of pollution and climate disaster.”
On social media, spread the message with the #StopLine3 AND #ShutDownDAPL hashtags. Also go to https://www.stopline3.org/biden and sign the petition, then tweet the link or share it on Facebook!
