In mid-December, the Department of Environmental Quality held a public meeting to inform us of the actions DEQ has taken to regulate Zenith, given Zenith’s use of the McCall dock without proper permission. DEQ demanded that Zenith get a new LUCS (Land Use Compatibility Statement) from the City by February 4th.
On January 2nd, the new Portland City Council met for the first time and XR PDX, along with many other groups, were out in numbers. Bureau of Planning and Sustainability staffer Donnie Oliveira was asked about Zenith and promised the Mayor and Council a closed-door briefing which would include “myth-busting”. The Stop Zenith campaign has been demanding a transparent, public process around any consideration of a LUCS. The 2022 LUCS decision was made through illegal lobbying by Zenith and a back-room deal. We need to make sure that does not happen again.
Write to Mayor Keith Wilson, City Administrator Michael Jordan, and your City Council members and tell them any consideration of a new Land Use Compatibility Statement has to be done with public input and transparency. Zenith has broken the law again and again and lied to regulators repeatedly. Now is the time to get Zenith stopped for good.
