Read the latest draft of the Mayor’s proposed climate emergency declaration and send in comments!

One major disappointment is that while many of us testified on the need to have the city take concrete annual steps towards decarbonization in line with percentages established by the IPPC, the City made a specious argument that this was a global goal instead of taking responsibility for the fact that every community must begin these steps now and that the Global North creates the bulk of emissions and thus has an even greater responsibility to decarbonize at a rate faster and greater than the global recommendation.

Also on that page is a summary of public comments with a description of how feedback was incorporated. The Climate Emergency Declaration will be considered by City Council on Tuesday, June 30 from 6:30-8:30 PM.
