Protest NW Natural Slowdown on the CPP

What: Protest NW Natural trying to stop/delay/weaken the Oregon Climate Protection Plan
When: Noon, Wednesday, August 21,2024
Where: NW Natural Headquarters. 250 SW Taylor Street, Portland, OR

The Oregon Climate Protection Program (CPP) is on hold while the state undergoes a second rulemaking process. Fossil fuel companies, including NW Natural, sued to halt it in 2022.

The CPP program will set limits and reduced greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel companies like NW Natural by 90% by 2050.

Tell NW Natural to cease poisoning our air and blocking climate protection legislation NOW!

DEQ is taking verbal testimony on the state’s revised Climate Protection Program (CPP) next Wednesday at 4 pm online and written testimony until August 30th (see oregon.gov/deq/ghgp/cpp).  Talking points specifics are available at:  Guide: Write & Submit Public Comment/Give Testimony – Google Docs (scroll down to the 6th page to “Sample Talking Points”).

The CPP program must remain strong with science-based emission reductions standards, the pricing structure for Community CIimate Investment credits upheld, and implementation begun at the earliest possible date.   A strong Climate Protection Program will create jobs, protect community health, mitigate against climate chaos, and provide critical environmental justice investments – such as building weatherization, heat pumps, and solar panels – for the most vulnerable communities.  All of these demands are in line with the vision adopted by XRPDX to reverse the global economy away from profit-making and economic growth for the wealthy and toward meeting the fundamental needs of the Earth and all its inhabitants.
