The Big Puppets had their debut at the Portland Mardi Gras 2025 ‘Enchanted Forest’ Parade this last Tuesday, March 4th.

Construction of the puppets was made possible from a Portland Clean Energy Benefits Fund small grant and hosted by 350PDX. Reknown puppeteer, Donovan Zimmerman of Paper Hand Puppet Project directed participants in the making of the puppets.

Along with the puppets, there were signs, a walking forest of trees, beavers and the very pushy Fatcat Capitalists.

The big puppets require a team to move and spot their way through the crowd. The Great Heron requires six puppeteers and two spotters.
